Greenhouse Homeschool Community of Northeastern Illinois
Welcome!
Greenhouse Homeschool Community of Northeastern Illinois is a network of families enjoying the beautiful journey of home education together.
Greenhouse Homeschool Community park days, mom's nights, field trips, and other activities connect homeschoolers so we can develop friendships, encourage one another, and share wisdom and resources.
Simply a Community
Greenhouse Homeschool Community is not designed to be an academic supplement to home education, nor is it associated with a particular homeschool curriculum or specific to religious affiliation. Instead, Greenhouse Homeschool Community brings together homeschoolers from many walks of life who connect based on their shared passion to educate their children at home, and their desire to do so within a supportive network.
How Greenhouse Homeschool Community Works
A Free, Flexible, Volunteer-Based Community
Greenhouse Homeschool Community is a completely volunteer-run network of homeschooling families organizing social and one-off educational events. There are no registration or membership fees; though, some field trips may require that those who opt to attend pay an entrance fee directly to the subject attraction. Participation in community activities is always optional. To make Greenhouse Homeschool Community possible, each family must volunteer as a condition of membership and participation. Volunteering can include organizing activities, helping during activities, hosting activities, and bringing treats/refreshments when applicable.
Family-Oriented | Not A "Drop Off" Program
Greenhouse Homeschool Community activities, held several times each month, is designed for the entire homeschooling family. Preschool and younger siblings are normally welcome to attend events along with school-aged homeschooled children and their parents. Parents remain responsible for their children during community activities and must accompany and supervise their children at all times.
Schedule & Activities
Mom's nights are a cornerstone of Greenhouse Homeschool Community. Held once a month on Friday nights, August through May, these moms-only gatherings are designed solely to encourage, refresh and equip homeschooling moms.
Field trips are scheduled at least once a month, August through May, and include a variety of educational destinations.
Park days and other social community gatherings are scheduled at a variety of public locations, as well as in member homes, at least once a month, typically year-round.
Since member families volunteer to make community activities possible, member families add their own ideas, creativity and "flavor" to the group event calendar through the events they organize.
Member families receive the monthly event calendar via email.
